suburbs. philadelphia is at 73 degrees and even 70 degrees inç new jersey. the lehigh valley, you'll see sunshine today. it will get close to the 90 degree mark. the warming begins this morning. by 10:00, 82 degrees and into the upper 80s this afternoon. and delaware, you'll see sunshine as well. clear skies right now. you can see the city lights are on. the temperature into the low 80s. that's by 9:00 this morning. afternoon temperatures in the low 90s for delaware, the suburbs, philadelphia, even at the shore, it will be a warm one, 86 degrees. mostly sunny skies. a look at the day hour by hour when i come back with the futurecast. first, jessica boyington has your first alert traffic. >> thanks, bill. we're actually watching construction over in blackwood, new jersey right now. hughes landing road is closed from lower landing road to the black horse pike.
route 202 we're still in the green there as well. 11 minutes northbound from route 30 to the schuylkill expressway. speeds down into the 50s but that is still moving. ten minutes as well. southbound from the schuylkill to route 30. speeds into the upper 60s as well. also watching the boulevard, there's water main repair occurring on the southbound side right around ridge avenue. more updates and a live picture when i come back. new this morning, three teens are recovering after being shot in a shootout overnight. police tell us at least 12 bullets went flying at the corner of 27th and tasker. police were there for hours collecting evidence, trying to piece together what happened. philadelphia police say a 16 and 17-year-old were both shot in the leg. another 16-year-old was shot in the back. all three are expected to be okay. nbc 10's monique braxton is at children's hospital of philadelphia right now where one of the teens is recovering. she'll have more information about that in about a half hour. also new this morning, water
was gushing out of the roosevelt boulevard at henry avenue after a water main break. jessica's been talking about this. crews were directing traffic around the area where water was fooling on the road. first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington is keeping an eye on that and how it might impact your morning commute. breaking news. in ocean county, pse & g is reporting 13% of its customers are waking up with no power. there's an issue at asubstation there. ship bottom police tweeted about traffic lights being out on route 72. when you see a traffic light that is out, you treat it as a four-way stop. stay with nbc news and the nbc 10 app for updates on this power outage. 5:02 and 73 degrees. an accident, that's what police are calling the death of a toddler who got hit by a car in west philadelphia. >> the little boy was just 23 months old. his cousin said the child was on the sidewalk when he darted
between two parked cars and on to merion avenue. a woman was unable to see the boy and stop in time. the toddler was visiting his grandmother at the time. >> we call him scooty. he was a good little boy, man. he was out here playing. by the time he ran on the street, it was just too late. >> your heart is going to good out to him, especially the person that hit him, too. she had kids in the car with her. i know it hit her pretty hard, too. >> there's no indication that driver was speeding. police say she is cooperating with the investigation. two united airlines pilots from north jersey are expected in court today in scotland. they're suspected of being drunk just before a scheduled flight to the u.s. the pilots were supposed to fly from glasgow to newark with more than 140 passengers on saturday. instead, the flight was delayed ten hours while the airline found replacement pilots. police arrested them just before they were scheduled to board the flight. the pilots faced charges linked to britain's transport safety
laws. you may recall a similar story earlier this year where police in detroit arrested an american airlines pilot who failed two breathalyzer tests. the pilot pleaded no contest and was put on probation. last year, this jetblue pilot flew passengers from orlando to new york while allegedly under the influence. >> this is one of the areas where the pilots and all flight crew members have a virtual zero tolerance for impairment for any reason. if you are uncomfortable with a member of your crew, you don't fly with them. >> under faa rules, pilots are not allowed to consume alcohol within eight hours of a flight. four minutes after 5:00. a woman is facing charges after being accuse of vandalizing cars outside the home of the philadelphia district attorney. delaware county officials are handling this case. they say last year, tires were slashed on two cars outside of seth williams overbrook home.
stacey cummings surrendered to police and is facing charges including criminal mischief and possession of an instrument of crime. the head of a west philadelphia funeral home is scheduled to go on trial today for abusing corporatione ining . investigators found rotting bodies under trash bags. family members were told their family members were cremated. on saturday night, a woman was walking on bainbridge street in south philadelphia around 11:00 p.m. police say a man rode by on a bicycle and groped her. on august 13th, a man in this video reached out and touched say woman as he pedaled past her. it happened a total of four times throughout south philadelphia. if you recognize the man in this video, call philadelphia police. today is the dead lien for
chester city council to approve an economic recovery plan that could include layoffs for police and firefighters. an independent consulting firm recommended cutting first responder jobs through attrition and adding a 5% tax on entertainment tickets. some citizens in chester who attend public meetings on the plan were upset over the possible layoffs that they said would affect their safety. the council passed amendments to the plan. if it does not approve the plan, they'll have to come up with one of their own to cut spending. a south jersey camp dedicated one weekend a year to kids grieving a loved one. the kids spend time canoeing and doing other fun activities they also receive counseling and support to help them cope with their loss. i like to see the smiles on sunday when it's time to leave. that's what it does for me. it's a great thing for the kids. >> the camp has been doing this special weekend for these kids
for more than ten years. the st. joe's basketball team is getting new bling today. philç martelli and his 2016 te are getting their atlantic 10 championship rings. they won their fourth a-10 title in march. >> the hawks win by three. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 5:07. getting a nice start this morning. a little bit of a breeze is blowing, not everybody is feeling. we're all seeing clear skies, no sign of any clouds or sign of showers today. it will be another hazy and hot day with sunshine back into the upper 80s and low 90s this afternoon. that's three in a row for philadelphia. so a heat wave, though, not an extreme heat wave. fortunately, the humidity will be dropping during the day. a less humid condition this evening. you'll feel the difference later today. the temperatures right now have dropped into the 60s and 70s. 64 degrees in the suburbs. delaware is 68 degrees and look at south jersey at 64 degrees.
in the city, andorra, parkside, 69 agrees and 68 in somerton. most of the rest of the area is in the 70s and middle 70s. that's our starting point. a few scattered clouds, that's it, a slight chance of a shower. most areas will stay dry today. the humidity is high, it will be falling as the day goes on. the humidity projection, by noontime, 56% in philadelphia. with a little bit of a northwesterly wind, it will be lower than yesterday afternoon. 47% lighter today. we'll get more comfortable. sunshine, 75 degrees at 8:00. by noontime, 86 degrees in philadelphia. and 09 degrees this afternoon. the suburbs will warm into the low 80s by lunch time. then upper 80s this afternoon. you'll see that northwesterly wind in the suburbs, too and the lehigh valley. upper 80s in both those locations. meantime, in delaware, sunny skies, 88 degrees at 4:00. you could very well hit the 90 degree mark in delaware today
and in new jersey, it will be a bit warmer at 4:00 this afternoon. starting off in the 70s, not a bad time to get out and exercise if you're planning to do that before the heat is on this afternoon. at the shore, sunshine, bright sunshine all day long. 74 degrees at 8:00 this morning. by lunch time, into the low 80s and topping out into the low 80s this afternoon. there are some cooler, more comfortable days ahead. you can see the change with the seven-day forecast at the bottom the screen. a look beyond the seven day to show you how long that will last with the 10 day on 10 when i'm back in a few minutes. >> i'll be listening. i want the cooler, more comfortable days. i want to hear about that. >> let's check your ride to work. we've been focused on the roosevelt boulevard because of a water main break. jessica has an update. jess? >> a water main repair occurring southbound. these are our cameras around ridge avenue. lanes blocked here. the shoulder is gone, the next lane over, now one lane getting by. you can see the single file

breaking news in ocean coun county. atlantic city electric says power was just restored to customers in ship bottom, ocean county. a problem with a substation knocked out power to thousands overnight. that power has been restored. a scare at lax causes chaos inside and outside that airport overnight. >> hundreds of people poured out of the airport, some on to the tarmac when rumors spread about an active shooter.
police found no gunman. they're still investigating the source of the news. flight operations resumed after 30 minutes. a similar scene two weeks ago at jfk in new york. police rushed to the terminals afterç reports of shots fired. it turned out passengers cheering the olympics caused the scare. the montgomery health department is spraying for mosquitos. crews will be out just after 8:00 tonight in north wales borough and upper gwynedd township. the health department is trying to kill mosquitos carrying west nile virus. in the meantime, there's a new push to get control of the zika outbreak. >> the fda approved an idea to genetically modify mosquitos. in the florida keys. the local district is looking into a plan to be the first u.s. testing ground for genetically modified mosquitos. the insects would be released in key haven, a tiny suburb of key west. critics are calling it jurassic science. >> it cannot be recalled. once they are out there, they
are out there. >> we've done trials in the cayman islands, in brazil. in every single case we've shown over 90% control of the mosquito population within six to nine months. >> mosquito eggs would be injected with a specific gene. when they hatch, the male mosquitos are released. when they mate with the females, their offspring die more quickly, reducing the mosquito population. voters will decide on this plan of attack in november. this morning, rescue workers continue the grim task of recovering bodies from the rubble of last week's powerful earthquake in italy. italian authorities want to know whether negligence or fraud in adhering to bulling codes played any role in the high death toll. at least 209 people died in last week's quake. meanwhile, investigators are trying to keep organized crime from getting big construction contracts to rebuild many of the towns. hope is fading that for survivors will be found there.
pope francis dedicated sunday's prayer services to the victims. he also announced plans to visit the region. italian museums pitched in as well, donating the proceeds on sunday to help survivors. for the second time in less than a year, two men from the same remote canadian community have discovered they were switched at birth. david tate, the man in the white cap and leon swanson in the blue cap were swapped in a government-run hospital in 1975. donald trump testing confirmed the switch. and the repeat situation has prompted outrage. new questions about substandard health care for canada's indigent people. >> the first count could be a mistake. a second time, in my view, is a criminal activity. >> some people are asking if there were more switched at birth cases from the same hospital. the national health minister promised an independent investigation. a south jersey woman is
asking for help after someone stole her family heirloom. someone climbed through a window in the woman's berlin home on august 19th, stealing jewelry, including her wedding ring, her grandmother's engagement ring and father's wedding band. a reward is being offered to get the jewelry back. 5:17. let's get a check of traffic this morning. >> we've been focused on the roosevelt boulevard. jessica boyington has an update. >> one lane is getting by on the boulevard this morning. that's because of water main repair from a water main break that occurred overnight. route 1, the boulevard around ridge avenue has one lane slowly moving by as you can see the construction crews in the area, we're blocking off the right-hand shoulder, the next lane over.ç not affecting the northbound side right now. it's just all traffic headed southbound approaching the schuylkill expressway area. here's the 42 freeway in deptford, new jersey, around route 41. no problems or delays. four minute drive time. super light, northbound from 55 headed out towards the philadelphia area and walt
whitman bridge. maybe you're headed down to the shore or the sticklerville area. everybody is moving. 422 looks great so far. and we're still in the green. eight-minute drive time eastbound from 29 to the schuylkill. speeds in the 60s. more updates when i come back. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> 18 minutes after 5:00, clear skies in narberth. it's a live view, right now just a little gentle breeze, barely moving the flag this morning. you can see the leaves and the trees flowing just a little bit. 70 degrees in the lehigh valley and delaware 73 in philadelphia. while there are 60s in new jersey. lots of 60s to be found in the suburbs as well. right now, 67 in exton, unionville, down to 65 degrees. and 69 degrees in warrenton. sunshine, it's going to be another hot summer day today with temperatures climbing into the upper 80s to low 90s this afternoon. the humidity was elevated over the weekend. it won't be quite as high today.
90 degrees, though, with the humidity and the atmosphere will feel like 94 degrees this afternoon. look how that feels like line comes down later today. that's drier air moving into the area. it looks like it will be dry for days as the showers are on hold until the end of the week. come thursday is the best chance of seeing showers in the reading area. and for atlantic city, philadelphia, the chances go up on thursday as well. they remain minimal in delaware, just a slight chance of a pop-up shower in the heat and humidity this afternoon. right now, manly in the clear, just a few scattered clouds. you can see them in the lehigh valley and in some of the suburbs. the showers and thunderstorms at the end of the week, we have a long way to go. doesn't look like much right now. that's a cold front moving into north dakota creating a few showers. come thursday is our best chance of seeing the showers and possibly thunderstorms. until then, you'll need your sunglasses. 91 degrees this afternoon. and have to find a cool spot if you can. tomorrow morning, 88 degrees.
